What happened
A total of 422,000 e-bikes were imported into the European Union in the first six months of 2026, up 36% from the same period in 2025, according to Eurostat figures reported by Bike Europe. China accounted for 41% of EU e-bike imports year to date, overtaking other Asian supply bases and marking a sharp change from the previous year.
Why it matters
For manufacturers and exporters, the numbers suggest that European buyers are again using imports more actively as inventories normalize and price pressure remains important. The opportunity is meaningful, but it is not simply a low-price story: importers will continue to prioritize product compliance, documentation, reliable lead times, after-sales support, and defensible supply-chain execution.
Business takeaway• EU demand is showing a stronger import rebound than in 2025.• China’s share makes European importer/OEM outreach especially timely.• Compliance, origin, safety documentation and service remain central to conversion.
