Bosch eBike Systems has entered a new drive category with Hub Line, its first hub motor within the smart system. The motor is aimed at lightweight urban e-bikes and is rated at 45 Nm of torque, with a weight of about 5.1 lb (roughly 2.3 kg). It decouples above 25 km/h to reduce pedal resistance when assistance is no longer active.
Bosch pairs Hub Line with the PowerTube 360 battery, rated at 360 Wh and about 4.6 lb (roughly 2.1 kg). The company says a representative city e-bike can reach around 55 miles in Eco mode under its calculation conditions. The system is also linked to the eBike Flow app and a new ConnectModule using GPS, cellular connectivity, motion sensing and Bluetooth Low Energy.
The broader trend is toward e-bikes that look and feel closer to conventional bicycles while retaining digital services. Compact motors, slim batteries, hidden integration, tracking and connected anti-theft functions are becoming important design directions for premium urban and commuter products.
