Germany’s bicycle and e-bike market showed clearer signs of stabilization in the first half of 2026 after several difficult post-pandemic years. ZIV, the German bicycle industry association, reported that conventional bicycle production increased 6% year on year and sales rose by nearly 10%. E-bike production grew by more than 4%, while e-bike sales increased by around 2%. Combined bicycle and e-bike exports were also more than 6% higher than in the same period of 2025.
A key structural improvement is inventory normalization. ZIV said surplus stock accumulated in previous years has largely been reduced, although dealers are still ordering carefully. Service workshops remain busy, and the aftermarket for wear parts and accessories is developing positively. The message for suppliers is therefore not a return to boom conditions, but a more disciplined recovery with healthier stock levels and steady end-user demand.
KEY BUSINESS IMPLICATIONS• Plan for measured replenishment rather than aggressive inventory loading; dealers remain cautious even as sell-through improves.• After-sales support, spare parts and serviceability can strengthen dealer confidence and create recurring revenue.• Value-oriented e-bikes and practical everyday categories may benefit as the market normalizes and price sensitivity remains important.
