Industry Update
Germany’s bicycle and e-bike market is showing early signs of recovery after several difficult years. According to the German Bicycle Industry Association (ZIV), e-bike production increased by more than 4% year on year in the first half of 2026, while e-bike sales rose by around 2%. Combined exports of bicycles and e-bikes were more than 6% above the same period in 2025.
ZIV also reported that the surplus inventory built up during the previous downturn has largely been cleared. Retailers remain cautious and are still ordering closely against actual demand, but the reduction in excess stock improves the conditions for a healthier replenishment cycle. At the same time, specialist workshops continue to operate at high capacity and the aftermarket for wear parts and accessories is developing positively.
Commercial Takeaways for E-Bike Suppliers
• Demand is stabilizing: e-bike production and sales both returned to positive year-on-year growth in H1 2026.
• Inventory pressure is easing: excess stock has largely been reduced, which may gradually support new purchasing activity.
• Buyers are still cautious: retailers continue to order selectively and align procurement with current sell-through.
• Supplier implication: flexible MOQs, short lead times, competitive mid-market specifications and reliable after-sales support should be especially relevant in the current recovery phase.
