What happened
European Cycling Industries published its 2026 Bicycle Industry & Market Profile using 2025 industry data. It reports 10.820 million bicycles and electrically power-assisted cycles produced in Europe, while sales reached 15.618 million units, down 2.6% from 2024. Sales value reached EUR 18.252 billion, with a smaller 0.84% year-on-year decline. Direct employment in bicycle and parts manufacturing totaled 67,076 jobs.
Why it matters
The figures depict stabilization rather than another boom. After exceptional pandemic demand, the industry spent several years unwinding excess stock and adjusting purchasing plans. More normal inventories can support healthier replenishment cycles, but buyers remain sensitive to discounting, cash flow, and sell-through. Importers increasingly favor predictable lead times and market-specific configurations over speculative bulk orders.
Commercial outlook
E-bike suppliers should distinguish mature premium commuter and trekking demand from price-led niches. Local warehousing, replacement battery availability, documented testing, and clear distributor margins can be as important as headline motor performance. Targeted model ranges with disciplined reorder programs may outperform overly broad assortments.
What to watch next
Track national market data, dealer stock levels, EPAC-versus-conventional mix, and retail promotions before interpreting the Europe-wide aggregates as e-bike-only figures.
