Eurostat-based data published by Bike Europe show that 422,000 electric bicycles were imported into the European Union during the first six months of 2026, up 36% from the same period in 2025. China supplied 41% of those units, putting it back in the leading position for EU e-bike imports by volume.
The shift had already been visible in the first quarter, when China accounted for 47% of EU e-bike import volume while Taiwan fell to 23%. Earlier Q1 analysis also showed a large gap in average import value per unit, underlining how strongly Chinese supply is competing in price-sensitive segments. The H1 figures suggest this is becoming a broader sourcing shift rather than a one-quarter fluctuation.
WHY IT MATTERS• European demand for externally sourced e-bikes is recovering, especially in more price-sensitive categories.• Chinese OEMs are gaining volume share, increasing price pressure on Taiwan-based and European suppliers.• Brands planning 2027 ranges will need sharper differentiation in product design, service and compliance rather than competing on price alone.
