European Union e-bike imports rose sharply in the first six months of 2026. Bike Europe reported, based on Eurostat data, that the EU imported approximately 422,000 e-bikes during H1 2026, an increase of 36% compared with the same period in 2025.
China accounted for 41% of e-bikes entering the EU during the period, making it the largest source of imported units. Earlier data for the first quarter showed an even higher Chinese share of 47%, compared with 31% in Q1 2025 and 17% in Q1 2024. The figures show how quickly sourcing patterns have shifted as European buyers respond to consumer price pressure, changing tariff structures and the need for more competitive product ranges.
The trend creates both opportunity and pressure for exporters. Higher import demand is positive, but competition among Asian suppliers is intensifying. European buyers are therefore likely to place more weight on design differentiation, certification, parts support, battery traceability and dependable delivery.
